To run the product (play chess, generate coaching responses, keep your game in sync), to apply rate limits that keep the service available to everyone, to process support payments, and to respond if you contact support.
This is enabled by default and can be turned off at any time. We keep only coarse outcome and category counts to understand whether features help. These counts never include board positions, moves, messages, or account/session IDs. A server UTC capture time is used only for retention and weekly grouping. Raw events are kept for up to 28 days and summarized in private weekly aggregates.
The same setting covers a visit count that tells us whether people come
back. A cookie (cwm_funnel) holds only the day of your first
visit, a coarse source category (for example "search", "reddit" or a
campaign tag in the link you followed; never the page you came from), the
day you first got an answer from Mira, and the last day you were counted.
It holds no ID: everyone who first arrived on the same day from the same
source carries the same value. The server keeps only daily totals, never a
record per visitor. Use the
Usage analytics control in the product footer to opt out;
opting out also deletes this cookie.
We do not sell your data to anyone.
We plan to show ads in Play, in a board beside the chessboard, to help pay for running Chess with Me. No ads are shown yet. When they are, they will be voluntary: you will be able to switch them off in the sidebar.
When ads are shown, they are served by Google AdSense. They load in a separate, sandboxed frame on a different web address, so the ad code cannot read your games or your messages to the coach.
Google and its partners may use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can turn off personalised ads in Google's Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors at aboutads.info. Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent before personalised ads are shown. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Account, gameplay, and billing records are stored in a database on our server. The anonymous identifier is kept in a cookie and on our server.
You can sign out at any time. To request deletion of your account and associated data, or to ask what data we hold about you, email us at the address below.
This product is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
